From Silence to Strength: Anas Sohail’s Journey

Anas Sohail’s early childhood was marked by a sudden and life-altering diagnosis when he lost his hearing due to typhoid, an experience that left his family, particularly his mother, grappling with uncertainty about what lay ahead and whether he would ever be able to live independently. In the absence of clear guidance or accessible educational pathways, these concerns quickly turned into daily realities as Anas was enrolled in a government school that lacked the resources to support a deaf student.

Without access to sign language or trained educators, the classroom became a space of isolation rather than learning, where communication barriers prevented meaningful interaction with teachers and peers, and where Anas often faced bullying that further deepened his sense of exclusion. Each day reinforced a growing feeling of disconnection, leaving him discouraged and uncertain about his place in the world.

A turning point came when Anas was introduced to Deaf Reach, where, for the first time, he encountered an environment built around accessibility and understanding. Through Pakistan Sign Language, he was able to communicate freely, engage with lessons, and form friendships that helped rebuild his confidence. Supported by teachers who understood his needs, Anas gradually rediscovered a sense of purpose and developed a genuine interest in learning.

Today, Anas is a student in Class 12 and is also pursuing vocational training in barbering, equipping himself with practical skills that will allow him to contribute to his family’s livelihood. Looking ahead, he hopes to one day work with Deaf Reach, motivated by a desire to give back to the community that played a defining role in shaping his journey and restoring his belief in what is possible.
